Early Dismissal from School
The parent/guardian must present a note to the school for early dismissal. Students seeking an early dismissal should report to the receptionist area before first period with a note stating the reason and time to be excused.
The student will be given an excuse form that should be shown to the classroom teacher before leaving. Students will report to the receptionist office at the designated time and remain there until he/she is signed out by a parent/guardian.
The student must also submit a parental note upon returning to school the next day.
School Closing/Delayed Opening Due to Inclement Weather
In case of inclement weather, the Superintendent’s office will determine the appropriate course of action. Parents are encouraged to listen to local radio stations or television stations for announcements concerning the status of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County Schools and the Carter G. Woodson School.
In all cases of early dismissal, bus service will be provided.
Parents who drive their students to/from school are encouraged to pick up their student(s) within 15 minutes of dismissal time.
When a weather emergency occurs, the School receives a high volume of calls, which may prevent parents form communicating directly with their children. Therefore, each family should discuss and develop a plan for emergencies that can be executed when necessary.
