Dual College Enrollment

Carter G. Woodson School participates in North Carolina’s Career and College Promise. North Carolina is fully investing to ensure that our students are prepared for the economic future which is connected to the global economy. To participate in the global economy, workers require a two- or four-year degree, a certificate or diploma.

 

Through Career & College Promise (CCP), qualified high-school-age students in North Carolina have an excellent opportunity to pursue these options with free tuition while they are in high school. We prepare our high school students to get an early start on their workplace and college goals.

e pay the waived tuition fee rate and books for students that qualify to participate in the dual enrollment program.

In addition, we provide transportation from Carter G. Woodson School to Forsyth Technical Community College.

Dual Enrollment Qualifications

Be a high school junior or senior at least 15 years of age.

Weighted GPA of 3.0 on all high school classes or recommendation for consideration by the principal or his/her designee.

Must meet prerequisites for the courses in which the student is enrolling.

Demonstrate college readiness on an assessment/ placement test for the courses in which the student is enrolling.

Plan Scores will also be recognized at Forsyth Tech. To meet course prerequisites, students may be allowed only one retest with appropriate approval.

Courses taken at Forsyth Tech can be used for granting Articulated Credit at the high school level with Honors Credit status.

College Preparatory

At Carter G. Woodson, our program is based on preparing students for college or two-year technical institutions. We follow a Future Ready High School Curriculum. Every course that our high school students take aligns with admissions standards of all the universities in the UNC system. In addition, we offer honor and AP courses. Within our high school program, all students will take an online course which will better prepare our students for the rigors of college. We do not allow students to have cellular phones on campus to ensure a pristine academic environment, however; high school students have full use of a state-of-the-art computer lab and Library Media Center. 

Our director of guidance services guides all of our seniors through the process of getting into college.The director will personally assist parents with the FASFA and completing college applications,helps revise college admission essays, as well as scholarship essays. Director of guidance services answers questions about financial aid and North Carolina residency, aids students taking and retaking the SAT and ACT.

Every Child Has A Plethora Of Opportunities After High School 

Carter G Woodson School provides a full comprehensive program that prepares students from middle to their senior year in high school for college and technical trade schools. Carter G. Woodson students familiarize themselves with college by attending college tours and college fairs. We are dedicated to ensuring that

every child has a plethora of opportunities after high school for post-secondary education or a career in the Armed Services. The college admission process is difficult, but at Carter G. Woodson School, our director of guidance services is a guide through the entire process.
