At Carter G. Woodson School, our high school curriculum is built around the Future Ready Core Curriculum. These are the courses that students need to take to graduate high school and enroll in the UNC-system of universities. 

All students must earn at least 22 credits in the Future-Ready Course of Study to graduate from high school.  The Future-Ready Course graduation requirements ensure that a student is prepared for life and whatever pathway they choose after they graduate, workplace, colleges/university or the military.  Below are the specific course requirements.

Mr. Rattley

Antonio Rattley serves as our graduation coach. He comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge on post-secondary high school options.  At Carter G. Woodson School, 100% of our students will have post-high school options including four-year university, two-year technical training, or the military. Over 88% of our graduates attend four-year universities after high school. 

SAT Information

The SAT is an admission test for college.  Most four-year colleges require students to submit admission test scores as part of the application process.  All the UNC system schools accept the SAT. High SAT scores will enable students to receive scholarship money.

  • Attention Seniors – Please be sure to complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible (opened October 1st) to secure federal grants, loans, and work-study funds.  

  • Complete NC Residency before you apply to NC Colleges and Universities to determine eligibility for in-state tuition and state grants.

  • Begin your scholarship search by using the links below.  There are a variety of places to check for additional scholarships such as local businesses and civic groups, as well as college websites. Colleges may offer their own merit, departmental and/or talent-based scholarships specific to students they admit.

Driver's Education

A $45.00 fee is now required to be paid by the first three days of class. Students that are dismissed from driver education class due to behavior or attendance problems will not be allowed to take driver education a second time through the Winston Salem/Forsyth County School System.

Driver Eligibility Certificate (DEC)

To obtain your DEC, you must be at least 14.5 years old and bring the following items to the Guidance Office:

 

  1. Original or certified copy of your birth certificate

  2. Social security card

  3. Current report card

  4. Driver Education Certificate provided to you by your driving instructor once you complete the driving portion of your course

  5. A parent or legal guardian must come to school to sign and date the DEC in the presence of the Guidance Department staff.
